There’s something strange about becoming a Mother. There’s a little bit of you that fades away, a part of you which grows beyond your wildest dreams with love and adoration for this new little bundle of life, and there’s also a part of you which stays the same and is pulled in every direction trying to figure out which way is up and which way is down.
There’s this mental and physical struggle going on trying to find your feet and learn this new role. You’re sleep deprived, your body is permanently changed and your in a fog for what seems like forever. The hardest part is the juggling act of your time and body. Your time is no longer yours, your body is no longer yours. You’re faced with a million decisions and two million articles on the pros and cons of everything. You fight a constant battle between what you want to do and what you can do now that you have a fully dependent child attached to you almost 24/7.
Somewhere along the way the clouds start to lift, the sun starts to shine, and those picture perfect family photos you see daily become a possibility. Being a Mother is the hardest thing you’ll ever do. The challenges are never ending and when you finally think you’ve got this gig sussed and know what you’re doing, you’ll be hit smack in the face with your next obstacle course in life.
So remember to enjoy the little things. Cuddle your baby. Rock you baby. Sing to your baby. Love your baby with everything you have.
One day they’ll be all grown up and you won’t be called on 24/7. One day they’ll be all grown up and have families of their own. One day they’ll be all grown up, and you know what? They’ll still need you. And you’ll still need them.
Be a Mother. Whatever way you know best, be a Mother.
